Protecting Our Students

We all know bad things come in threes, so I have been patiently waiting.... bad thing number 3 happened on Friday and it happened at school.

I can't say much, but what I can say is that I will ALWAYS make sure that my students remain safe, not only in school, but at home as well.  That being said, when a student comes into my room looking different (read between the lines), I know I have to tell someone.  This time I was scared, as the perpetrator of this supposed crime (innocent, until proven guilty....) is much, much bigger than I am and I truly was afraid that I could be harmed, but God has my back.

Friday, while I was happily teaching, said perp came to school ranting and raving about what I had reported. Imagine the scene......  I was told later that this person was extremely upset with me and said I was the backstabber who turned against this person, simply because I was doing my job, no I retract that:  simply because I was being a Christian and a human being.

I drove home in a panic, looking all around me praying I wasn't being followed.  Can you imagine?  I let someone take control of me because I gave them permission through fear.  Today is a brand new day and I WILL NOT allow anyone to take control of me and my choices.  Especially choices that will protect another from harm.

Has anyone else had a situation like this?  I know mine is hard to determine, but I think most of you know what I am talking about.

  1. I've (fortunately) never been in a situation like this, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm saying prayers for you and your sweet student. Hope that this week is a better one!

  2. I was summoned to testify at a custody case for a student...the entire thing was tense, stressful, uncomfortable.

    I, too, will be praying for you and the student. {{}}

  3. How frightening! I will certainly keep you and your little one in my prayers. This is such a hard job many times but because of wonderful, caring teachers like you, this little one's life can be changed for the better. One of my little people is going through a nasty custody case and this week, we had all involved parties show up at school along with the police. It all ended without incident, but it was certainly tense for a while.
