Here is mine:
My favorite first day of school read aloud is Chrysanthemum by Kevin Hankes. First graders still have that scared look on their face when they have to remember my name and the names of everyone else in the class. After having some fun with ice breaking name games, we sit on the carpet and find that Chrysanthemum also had her issues with names, mainly her own. We draw the way we felt when we came into the class and the way Chrysanthemum felt. Then we draw how we feel after we read the book and how Chrysanthemum felt at the end.
Thanks for linking up. I just got this as a big book from my Donors Choose project. It is a great story and I love, love, love the illustrations. Kevin Henkes is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI just ADORE Chrysanthemum! I like reading it at the start of the year to help teach about being kind to one another. :)
